The magic of writing revealed itself to me as a child through the joy of reading, I read with a thirst that remains unsatisfied. I write to better understand myself and this human experience , My love of film noir, the cinema of classic Hollywood, and Sci-Fi has informed my work. But of course it does not stop there. My fiction focuses on the post-Coffy/Foxy Brown independent women of color who find themselves in weird and wacky situations, that appeal to their sense of adventure and their need to walk on the wild side. The template for these characters is my mother -- a real character.
Creatives are my people, especially musicians and writers. Art can save your life. l am living proof.
I am a jazz vocalist, popular culture essayist, sometime poet, former wife, mother of two, and human pet to Squeaky the cat. I got my MFA in Creative Writing from FDU when I was in my sixties.
